‘They mean it’: ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ demon celebrations say it all
Melbourne are ‘back’ in the premiership race with a brilliant 58-point win over rivals Brisbane and a finals-like game brought finals-like celebrations at the Gabba.
Captain Max Gawn was quick to usher his teammates off the ground after his post-match interview where he said he didn’t like to talk about last year – instead focusing on 2022.

And after a big rendition of the team song, cameras in the rooms showed remarkable “Wolf of Wall Street” celebrations with the players going wild.
When Christian Petracca started pounding his hand over his heart, everyone joined in with the drinks flying.
“Clearly they mean it,” praised Fox Footy’s Nick Riewoldt.
“I think they got off to a faster start than the other teams in the competition. They are right in the rooms.
“It’s as convincing a performance as when they were (unbeaten) in Round 10.
“The way they celebrated, I think they think they’re back.”
Jonathan Brown said the fact that Gawn refused to discuss the success of the drought in 2021 showed they were in the right space.
“They are not resting on last year’s laurels,” he said.
“They are motivated to go on and win another flag. They were amazing tonight.
“They look to be shaping up beautifully to challenge Geelong.”
Garry Lyon said the stunning win over Brisbane – Melbourne’s 11th in a row – was “news” to their challengers.
“They’re not done,” he said.
Coach Simon Goodwin said he was “proud” of his players after Friday night’s effort.
“It was amazing how the players went about it,” he said.
“To sit in this position and give yourself a chance because most coaches will say the season is over now and we’re starting another one.
“We will give ourselves the best chance to perform.
“It was a final like a build-up, an atmosphere like a final.”
The win lifts Melbourne into second place, with their final standings pending the outcome of St Kilda’s result in Sydney on Sunday.
