Running: Apple Harvest Race Adds New Twist
Southington – The Apple Harvest Festival Road Race has been an autumn tradition in Southington for 43 years and the race is always looking to add new aspects to its schedule, taking place on 2 October.
This year the Southington Community YMCA has launched a new partnership with the Southington Chamber of Commerce and the two have combined for the new Chamber Corporate Cup – a new category in the Apple Harvest Festival road race this fall.
Local businesses and agencies will register and participate in the 5K road race as a ‘corporate team’. The team with the lowest time average of three runners will win the Chamber Corporate Cup trophy. Along with this, one trophy will be given to the male runners and a trophy will be given to the female runners. Also, the top three male and female individuals in the Chamber Corporate Cup Division will receive medals.
John Myers, director of the Apple Harvest Festival road race, said, “My son (Jack) works in New York City and he told me he was going to join his team corporate team for a road race and I said, ‘ We should do that.” “We’re excited about that and we know the Chamber is excited to bring some unity and a sense of company. We look forward to a good response.”
The cost is $30 and $10 of the entry fee goes back to supporting the Southington Chamber of Commerce community outreach programs and services.
Those interested in joining the Chamber Corporate Cup should contact John Myers at or to incorporate their company.
