American/United Shopping Portals: Earn up to 2,000/1,200 bonus miles
American Airlines and United Airlines, both shopping portals, this week launched new spending promotions that offer 2,000 and 1,200 bonus miles, respectively.

- This one-time bonus award will be based on the member’s cumulative qualifying purchases made during the bonus period using one of the following tiers: Tier 1 bonus: 100 miles for qualifying purchases of at least $50; or Tier 2 Bonus: 500 miles for eligible purchases of at least $150; Or Tier 3 Bonus: 1,200 miles for eligible purchases of $300 or more.
- “Eligible purchases” do not include returns, cancellations, shipping and handling, taxes, gift card or other cash equivalent purchases, and certain products that do not qualify for bonus miles.

If you spend $50, $150 or $300, respectively, the United promotion gets more generous with what you spend, offering 2x, 3.33x or 4x bonus miles. American’s offering is odd, though. The Better Spend bonus is capped at $50 as you’ll earn 8X (400 Bonus Miles) as opposed to the $500 limit, which only earns 8X (2000 Bonus Miles).
The US Shopping Portal promotion only gives you one week to reach the spending limit, but it’s nice to see that United’s offer gives you two weeks. Keep in mind that you don’t earn the same number of loyalty points for bonus Miles earned through such promotion (though you will earn miles on original spend).
These offers are a nice bonus, but they are not worldwide. Make sure to compare portal rates on Cashback Monitor before committing to one of these.
